Steve Jobs dropped out of college, started a business, was forced out of it, and later came back when the company was in trouble. He yanked hard at the chains of life begging for another chance, acknowledging failure as how to succeed in business.

“It was awful tasting medicine, but I guess the patient needed it”, he said when asked about the less impressive moments of his life.

Jobs believed that in order to make the biggest decisions in life, you have to eliminate all fear of failure or embarrassment.

Failure is inevitable in any enterprise. It can be the wake-up call you need.

To fear failure is to fear success because one cannot be had without the other. It is when we fail that we learn how to be better and so much more.

The Positive Spin on Failure

In a 2005 commencement speech, Jobs called death, “the single best invention in life”. This sounds rather morbid, but in actuality, he meant that death should be used as a compass to point us in the right direction.

He thought that we should align our lives in a way that makes the most of every day. That every decision we make should fall into line with our goals as human beings.

Jobs believed deeply that finding your passion and using the fear of death to pursue it is the best way to achieve success. Then, all you have to do is go to work and do your best.

How to Succeed in Business

To know how to succeed in business, you will need to use a similar compass. When you wake up in the morning, know that every decision you make that day will be the best one you can make with the information you have.

Then, let go. Radically accept that whatever will be, will be.

Making a List of Fears

Once you’ve realized that facing failure is your only option, you need to turn over every rock in your mind and find all your fears.

Every last one of them.

It is only when you have exhausted your imagination that you should stop writing. Then, for a moment, be calm. You probably feel lighter already, just knowing where the extent of your worries lies.

As humans, we are affected by stress hormones. They are put out in times of intense stress and when you are constantly thinking about everything that can go wrong. Your mind is working on overdrive producing chemicals that will save you from imaginary danger.

When you make a list of your fears you are mapping your worries for your brain. It is also easy to see patterns in your thoughts this way and find ways to combat any problems you have. This will lead to better decision making.

Growing as A Business

Overcoming obstacles is the best way to grow. If you are looking to spend time around others with the same goals as you, then you should consider a shared working space.

By surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals, you will find that your endeavors are more successful. They can teach you new techniques to improve your business.
